MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1990-V)

Llegamos al cuarto y último miércoles del mes de Octubre y hoy corresponde presentar el segmento musical bimensual dedicado al año 1990, hace 25 años, cuando quien escribe tenía 27 años de edad. Para el día de hoy, he querido elegir dos buenos temas que tuvieron difusión hace un cuarto de siglo.

1.-  BLAZE OF GLORY (Jon Bon Jovi).-  En la segunda mitad de la década del 80, uno de los grupos que dominó firmemente el panorama musical fue Bon Jovi. Con temas como “Living On A Prayer” y “Bad Medicine”, la rompieron en todo el mundo y estuvieron en la cima. En 1990, Jon Bon Jovi, líder y vocalista de la banda, contribuyó con la banda sonora del film “Young Guns II”, con la canción “Blaze Of Glory”. Al principio, Emilio Estevez –protagonista del film- pidió incluir la canción de Bon Jovi, “Wanted Dead Or Alive”, en el soundtrack de “Young Guns II”. Pero Jon Bon Jovi no creía que la letra del tema –que trata sobre la banda estando de gira constantemente- encajara con el argumento del film. Sin embargo, esta petición lo inspiró a escribir “Blaze Of Glory”, con letras más acorde con el film. El tema fue escrito por Jon Bon Jovi y producido por Danny Kortchmar y Jon Bon Jovi, contando con la colaboración de Jeff Beck en la guitarra. Fue lanzado como single el 21 de Julio de 1990, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 8 de Setiembre de 1990, y en el USA Album Rock Tracks. Además fue N° 1 en Australia por 6 semanas y N° 13 en UK. Más adelante, sería incluido en el álbum solista de Jon Bon Jovi, “BLAZE OF GLORY”. Finalmente, obtuvo un Globo de Oro como Mejor Canción Original de Film, y obtuvo una nominación al Oscar por el mismo motivo. 25 años después, recordamos esta muy buena canción.

2.-  RELEASE ME (Wilson Phillips).-  En 1990, el trío femenino Wilson Phillips alcanzó un enorme éxito en todo el mundo con el tema “Hold On” –que tuvimos en este segmento de 1990 hace cinco años. El siguiente single sería la canción “Release Me”, que también obtuvo éxito –aunque no al nivel de su predecesora. Era una bonita balada que permitía el lucimiento de las voces del trío. La canción fue escrita por Wilson Phillips y producida por Glen Ballard, siendo lanzada como segundo single del álbum “WILSON PHILLIPS” en Junio de 1990, y llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 15 de Setiembre por 2 semanas. Además, fue N° 1 en el USA Adul Contemporary Charts por 1 semana, y en Canadá, N° 14 en Holanda, N° 15 en Australia e Irlanda, N° 36 en UK y N° 37 en Alemania. Un cuarto de siglo después, vale la pena escuchar este bello tema.

Este ha sido el quinto segmento musical de 1990. Espero que estas dos muy buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
